Stephen (Harry) Balcombe

Stephen (Harry) Balcombe is a Research Fellow in the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University.  He completed his BSc (Hons) and PhD from LaTrobe University in freshwater fish ecology and has worked at Griffith University in various research roles since 1997. His research interests include understanding dynamics of fish populations in lowland floodplain rivers, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.  Research areas include trophic dynamics, variation in body condition and recruitment responses of different species to ecological drivers, including flow regimes. He is passionate about understanding the future needs for research and management, including balancing competing interests in the Murray Darling Basin to protect and enhance fish populations and their habitats into the future. He has been a member of ASFB since 1995 and previously served on the ASFB Executive as a Queensland State Rep for 6 years.
