All successful submissions will be considered for conference awards

  • Best Oral Presentation (Gilbert P. Whitley Memorial Student Award) - The Gilbert P. Whitley award is sponsored by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC). The award is presented to encourage and support high quality oral presentations by students at the Society's annual conference. Click here to complete the application process.

    • Senior (MSc, PhD):

      • Winner - $1200

      • Runner up - $600

    • Junior (undergrad, honours, MSc):

      • Winner - $1200

      • Runner up - $600

  • Best Speed Talk

    This is a new award supported by ASFB for the 2020 Virtual Conference based on a new condensed presentation format. Three (3) minute Speed talks, accompanied by a maximum of 3 slides. All accepted speed talks will be considered for the prize.

  • Best Graphical Abstract

    Continuing on the success of the 2019 Best Graphical Abstract Award, ASFB will be supporting the award at the 2020 Virtual Conference. Student members can nominate to be eligible for this award as either accompanying their regular talk, speed talk or as a standalone submission. All Graphical abstract presentations will be considered for this prize.

2020 Student Communication in Science Video Competition

The video competition in science communication runs alongside the annual conference and is open to current ASFB student and ECR members. There are $8k in prizes available and new membership is welcome. The submission stage is currently live and closes on September 30.
